Great Timing Tom Brady becomes TAG Heuer’s newest Brand Ambassador.

At the launch event for the Carrera – Heuer 01, TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Bivet introduced New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as the brand’s newest ambassador. Brady spent a few minutes with AQ discussing the collaboration between himself and his newest luxury teammate.

How did the collaboration with TAG Heuer come about?
We’ve been talking for a few months. It was a natural fit for me. They’re working on some new watches, and I wanted to be involved. It was great timing.

Do you collect watches?
Yes, but Jean-Claude Bivet (the CEO of TAG Heuer) owns 150 watches. Now that’s a collector! But I’ve accumulated a few over the years.

You’re off to a prolific start this season. In your mind do you have a sense of what you want to achieve before you retire?
I enjoy playing. I love what I do. Why stop? Hopefully we can keep it going for a long time.

What will you be doing as a brand ambassador for TAG?
I’ll be making appearances. We’ll be doing some events for charity together. We plan to collaborate on some products. Jean-Claude and I have been talking about it. He’s an amazing man. He’s been in the watch business for over 40 years. He knows everything about watches. He’s the Bill Belichick of watchmaking!

And the first nice watch you ever owned was a TAG Heuer?
It’s the first one I ever bought. I got it right after we won the Super Bowl in 2002, so I thought I’d splurge on something.

If you win a fifth Super Bowl this year, what would you splurge on?
(Laughs) I usually do my splurging on my wife and kids, so I’d buy something for them. I’ve been blessed. I have everything I need.

You’ve been a leader for the Patriots for a long time, and you’ve incorporated a lot of different teammates into your team’s success. What advice would you give to a young athlete who wanted to be a leader?
You cant anyone to do something you wouldn’t do yourself.  I think you have to lead by example. After all, it takes a lot of people doing their job well for us to be successful.
