Silver Lining Auto-customizing legend Galpin takes the Ford GT to higher ground

One look at the Galpin Ford GTR1 and all thoughts of automotive purchasing prudence go out the window. Life’s too short for Camrys, after all.

California-based Galpin has been customizing rides for 60 years. Now this: An entry into the bonafide supercar market. The GTR1 is based on the legendary Ford GT and, according to Galpin, is an interpretation of what the GT may have looked like and performed if it didn’t cease production in 2006. And performed is the key word here: The Galpin Ford GTR1 twin-turbo charged 5.4-liter V8 boasts an estimated 1,024 hp and speeds in excess of 225 mph. The GTR1 features 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, Pirelli P-Zero tires, six piston brakes with full carbon rotors and jeweled head and tail lamps. The cockpit is all luxurious leather and machined aluminum; the sound system is by McIntosh.

Here’s the gulp part. The Galpin Ford GTR1 is available in a choice of aluminum ($1,224,000) or carbon fiber bodies ($1,024,000). And production is limited to 24 models worldwide.
